People's perceptions of "rich" is very skewed. But perception is reality as they say.

It is important for people to factor in, as a first step however, that the no matter how much a person might have as income, the government will get about one-third of that in all taxes (Fed-State-Cty-City-Local, etc.). It is the take-home pay that is of most interest to having and maintaining a lifestyle where you live. And living in the city or major metro areas is not cheap for anyone.

Nothing is what it seems. So with that in mind, I find this type of 'incident' a bit perplexing. Eliminating the explanations offered by the media and those providing them, I have to wonder just what is at play. Why didn't the UAV self destruct? Certainly that is possible if such sensitive technology is at stake. Or is there technology that is being provided that is meant to lead the Iranians down the rabbit hole or to plant other hidden 'friendly' capabilities?

Or maybe it is just a move in the big chess game in the geo-political landscape that aims to distract Iran's leadership and put fear into the minds of the military? Psy-ops are always at play. We may only learn how this incident fits in a couple of decades should our world still exist by then.

It would be nice to know how the Siemens Competition may have supported the work done, or was it simply a competition after-the-fact?

The article makes you think that the competition was the motivation for the accomplishment, however, I would tend to believe that a more personal motivation was at play, and the competition was the result of positive results.

In any case, Angela certainly is a star and has a bright future in research. Congratulations!

I wonder if there are any statues, carvings or paintings of native americans. Maybe totem poles? But this article does seem to raise a good point. It would be an interesting study to find out what cultures have found it necessary or important to idolize heroes, kings, etc. through basic destruction/modification of the environment.

While Egypts pyrimids would qualify, that was adding something to a basically empty desert, not defacing a natural structure for someone's glorification. Could this be predominantly a "western" concept, as progressives are wont to claim?

My prediction: China is fast becoming like pre-WWII Japan and hungers for natural resources that it's neighbors have within their borders. China, like the neighborhood bully, will not think twice about taking them, especially as the US military continues to be weakened by liberal politics of the Obama administration and the poor domestic economy.

The creation of smoldering fires around the world and an increase in US needs for oil imports while nothing has been done to reduce imports by developing domestic supplies means the US will remain in a weakened position for the foreseeable future.

Having fast computers is one thing. Having them do work based on proven software in an environment that is supportable and sustainable is another totally different issue.

The Chinese, however, have their longterm goals, of which the Internet of Things will probably take a generation or more to achieve (e.g. 20-30 ys).

Economic freedom does in fact make the whole pie larger but no matter how large it gets, those who are lazy and have a government handout never get tired of asking for a bigger share. I am not saying there should not be mechanisms to assist those in true need but therein lies the rub. When the government agencies are run by the same quality of people who "want" to help everyone who claims to be needy, well the definition of "true" need gets blurred. It is at the point now where the entire welfare system is a mess and a gross waste and non-productive use of taxpayer funds. And these funds are not "entitlements." If I worked my whole life contributing to Social Security then my share of those funds becomes an entitlement I have against the government, not against my fellow tax payer. The government made a pledge to have the funds there for my retirement years, sort of like a forced savings account.

All fighters know multiple disciplines but have a strong starting base in one. Some have wrestling. Others muy thai. Others combinations of these plus extensive practice in boxing, judo, wrestling, and local skills depending on their regional home favorites.

You have got to see these guys in action. I can't deny there is the animal aspect to it. But there is the professionalism, discipline, technique, display of heart and courage, competitiveness and can't quit attitude that says "never say die." This kind of commitment is rare.

Does it really take education for people of any nation, color, race, religion, creed to know that when it comes to sex ...

1 + 1 = 3 ??

Take a look at this picture of famine in East Africa, or in Indonesia. Do people who become "parents" not have a heart for their off-spring to sentence them to a life of suffering?

How are even good Christian people supposed to fight a tsunami? Corrupt governments of both Developed and Under-Developed nations are letting the problem get out of hand figuring that "good" people will be kept busy fighting the good fight and continue to be distracted from the weasel activities they continue to conduct daily. Now they are becoming bold and don't even bother hiding in the shadows but do their thing in the open under the guise of works for humanity or the earth. All there to see, if you are paying attention.
